Work from home – how to stay focused?

Even though working from home is not a new phenomenon, COVID-19 pandemic has made it a necessity for many offices around the world. During this period, many employers have realized that they don’t need large office spaces, and the employees have discovered that they don’t need to be in the office every day to get the job done.

As much as it sounds like everybody’s dream, remote work can come with some pretty unique challenges. In the first few weeks, it can be tough to keep the same focus as when you are in an office setting. And when you realize that you are away from the rest of your team, a lack of connection can harm the overall business.

In the following text, we have prepared a few advice on how to stay on the course while working from home:

  1. Set up an ideal workspace

No matter what part of your home you are going to use, it’s essential to have a dedicated office. People often find it easy to sit with their laptop on the couch, but this is usually near a TV, which can be a big distraction. Having a desk is the right choice to make – this way, you are going to separate the work area from your personal spaces.

  1. Define clear working hours

Start your working day around the time you know you’re the most productive and focused. It is important to set up and stick to your boundaries if you want to be as productive as previously.

Let your family and friends know that despite you working from home, you are not willing to socialize with them in these hours. You can briefly chat with them during your breaks, which can be useful for your positive mood.

  1. Leave household chores for later

We know it’s pretty tempting to run the dishwasher or to take a break to renew your garden, but these activities will interrupt your flow and focus. It is not smart to casually mix your household activities with your professional obligations because, at the end of the day, you will feel exhausted and with your tasks hanging above your head. Instead, set aside a certain amount of time to do stuff not connected to the job so that you can use your time wisely.

  1. Take a gym break

This sounds like a perfect idea as long as you plan it right. Your physical health is at higher risk while working from home. When you are at the office, you still walk around a mile throughout the day – to your car, to a lunch break, or to get some fresh air. If you don’t want to sign up for gym classes, you can create a gym at your home. All you need to do is define a strict hour from the day, discover some exercises on the Internet, and be ready to go! Taking an exercise break provides a boost not only for the body but for your brain too!
